With a stunning performance, racecar-influenced manufacturing process, and an Italian flare, the fresh 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C joins the ranks of exclusive exotics. However, a lot of comfort is sacrificed in pursuit of performance. Highlights include a high-fuel economy, a razor-sharp handling, and an impressive quick acceleration. Its release date should be expected in early 2017.
Despite offering an impressive sporty sedan, and producing some iconic roadsters, Alfa Romeo made a quiet exit from the United States nearly two decades ago. Alfa’s sales were fledgling partly because their cars were so darn expensive and weren’t even reliable in the first place. But now with the Italian automaker acquired by Chrysler, it is hoped that the once revered reputation of Alfa models will eventually pick up.
Alfa has invested a lot of manufacturing techniques during the construction of the Romeo 4C. Aluminum metal has extensively been used during the construction of crash supports, roof and suspension structures. Under its hood, the 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C offers a diminutive but turbocharged four-cylinder 1.4L engine rated at 237 hp and 258 lbs. ft. of torque. True, the 4C may not need much power considering it weighs only 2,500 lbs. but in today’s world of 7-hp Dodge sedans and coupes, Alfa could have done much better.
There are several packages offered for the 4C including Brembo/TRW brake and Track packages. The latter, for example, comes with more aggressive tires and suspension settings, while the former makes the 4C stop as quickly as it goes. Upgraded performance features for the 4C include a leather-wrapped instrument panel, sports seats, aluminum rear diffuser, carbon fiber mirror caps and rear spoiler, and race-tuned suspension.
Idiosyncrasies do exist, though. These include a loud engine, a high-effort steering at low speed, minimal interior accommodations, less cargo space, a poor rear visibility, and a harsh ride. Alternatives you should consider include the 2017 Porsche Cayman, and the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette.
Alfa Romeo 4C – Trims Available
Two trims – base and Launch Edition – are offered for the two-seat 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C. The 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C Spyder review is handled separately, as is the 4C Quadrifoglio Verde coupe.
Exterior Changes & 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C Interior Photos
Exterior colors include Madreperla White Tri-Coat, Rosso Alfa, Black, Giallo Prototipo, Basalt Grey Metallic, Rosso Competizione Tri-Coat, and White. You should however expect minor changes or additions on its release date.
Standard accessories and features offered for the base 4C include auxiliary audio jack, keyless ignition and entry, LED taillights, manual rack-and-pinion steering, 18” rear and 17” front wheels, a USB port, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, adjustable cloth-upholstered seats, a digital instrument panel, a six-speaker sound system, power side mirrors, a telescopic-and-tilt steering wheel, and air-conditioning.
Several packages are offered for the 4C starting with the Exterior Appearance package which bundles satin-finish exterior mirrors, and a body-color rear spoiler. The Convenience package includes a premium-speaker upgrade, an alarm, cruise control, and rear parking sensors. The leather Interior Group offers a lockable rear console leather bag, and a leather-wrapped door panels and instrument cluster. The Track package adds a body-color rear spoiler, carbon-fiber exterior mirrors, simulated/leather suede steering, a track-tuned suspension, and a carbon fiber instrument panel surround.
Standalone options include a battery charger, painted brake calipers, xenon headlights, premium paint, red interior details, and various wheels.
