The new 2017 Cadillac ELR is a good-looking plug-in hybrid that not only bestows green credentials on its driver but also offers a sporty power and handling, ample and luxurious interior, and a contemporary styling. However, it lacks the everyday usefulness and refinement of other luxury plug-in sport coupes and hybrids. The 2017 Cadillac ELR release date should be expected sometime in the beginning of 2017, at least according to industry rumors.
Nowadays, sightings of hybrid-electric and all-electric cars are common particularly in the US cities. More and more automakers are unveiling their prototypes and some of them go ahead into the production stage. The last couple of years has seen their number grow, and more are expected in the future. But even so, especially among U.S car companies, the 2017 Cadillac ELR ha continued with its perennial leadership in its segment.
It is muscular, chiseled, and handsome as a Hollywood leading man. When driven, the ELR is most of the time running on all-electric power, and the engine only comes to play whenever the battery’s charge has been depleted. According to Cadillac, a fully charged battery can offer up to 39 miles of an all-electric range. Throw in a full tank and you’ve got yourself a combined range of 330 miles.
Although the ELR falls short of winning an Oscar in either the sport coupe of luxury car categories, it makes an intriguing proposition if you’re looking to make a fashion statement while reducing you environment footprint.
The new ELR, just like the previous model, shares the same mechanical platform that underpins the Chevrolet Volt. However, the ELR model’s engineers plumbed the depth of their programming skills in retuning the ELR’s power management software. Therefore, the new model now offers a brisker acceleration, offers more equipment and interior refinement unlike the previous model.
Sadly, nitpicking has yielded quite some substantial reasons enough to make you reconsider your choice. The gasoline engine permeates lots of noise, the base MSRP is lofty, the touchscreen interface is flimsy, and the backseat is claustrophobic.

2017 Cadillac ELR Engine Specs & Fuel Economy
A power rated at 157 hp and 295 lbs. ft. of torque is produced by an electric motor that gets its motivation from a 17.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Occasionally, the gasoline engine kicks in especially in situations where more power is needed. Otherwise, it’s used as an electricity generator for the electric drive motor.
Four drive modes are offered: Mountain, Hold, Normal, and Sport. These alter the powertrain’s efficiency and performance in different situations. The 2017 Cadillac ELR Sport 0-60, for instance, takes 6.4 seconds.
The ELR takes about four to five hours to fully recharge a depleted battery via the 240-V power source, and 12 hours via the 110-V station. The battery pack can also be recharged partially when driving through the engine generator and regenerative braking.
EPA is yet to offer conclusive fuel economy ratings, however, we should expect about 82 MPGe in overall.
