Beneath the hood of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt is a 1.5L gasoline engine and a plug-in hybrid system with two electric motors both of which are able to make an output of 149 horsepower. Four driving modes are available: Hold, Mountain, Sport, and Normal.
Recharging a depleted battery requires you to have either the 120-V or the240-V outlet. Also, you can recharge the battery using regenerative braking and excess power from the engine. 13 hours is needed to fully recharge a depleted battery from a 120-V outlet and 4.5 hours from the 240-V power source.
EPA says the all-electric driving range should be expected to be 53 miles, but this can vary upwards or downwards depending on the terrain. The gasoline working alone is rated at 43/42/42 mpg in the city/highway/combined.
