Often times, it’s hard to find style and versatility bundled together. The 2017 Kia Sportage however delivers on both counts. Furthermore, it comes with an impressive feature set that includes a smooth ride quality, nimble-feel around turns, an attractive dashboard layout, and a voluminous passenger and cargo space. Its release date should be expected sometime in early 2017.
The new 2017 Kia Sportage was unveiled during the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show by Kia Motors America. It enters its fourth generation in style by offering an all-rounded approach defined by the aforementioned features plus advanced driver assistance technologies, stiffer body structure, contemporary design, enhanced steering and suspension, and an available intelligent AWD system. As if that’s not enough, the 2017 Sportage still comes with a world-class craftsmanship, and premium materials.
This is what vice president, product planning KMA, Orth Hedrick, had to say, “The new Sportage perfectly balances thoughtful design and functionalities with a European and sporty styling thereby making it a stand out in its class. Instead of bland utility, the new model blends features such as a turbocharged engine, premium materials, and a design to kill for.”
The 2017 Sportage interior is feature laden and features an impressive level of craftsmanship. It is spacious, luxurious, and is offered with plenty of technologies for connectivity, convenience, and infotainment. The exterior also gains some much-needed changes. For one, the dimensions have increased over the existing model. To wit, the length has increased to 176.4 inches, and the wheelbase to 105.1 inches. The width and height however remain unchanged.
What about the performance updates – you ask! Well, updates to the drivetrain have brought about enhanced performance and efficiency. Two engines are offered: a 2.4L four-cylinder and a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder. The 2.4L mill is equipped under the hoods of the 2017 Sportage LX and EX and produces 181 horsepower and 175 lbs. ft. of torque, while the turbo is offered for the top-of-the-line 2017 Sportage SX Turbo and offers 240 horsepower.
If there’s one thing that still holds back the Sportage is its so-so fuel economy ratings. See, with a competition that includes all-rounded rivals such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4, the 2017 Kia Sportage finds itself between a rock and a hard place when it comes to fuel efficiency. Matters are also compounded by its meagre cargo capacity limited to just 60.1 cu. ft. compared to RAV4’s and CRV’s 73.3 cu. ft. and 70.9 cu. ft. respectively. But for someone who can live with those shortcomings, there’re bountiful of other things to love about the 2017 Kia Sportage.
Rivals include the 2017 Rav4, 2017 Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and the 2016 Mazda CX-5. And having read what the Sportage offers, the least you could do is to take it for a test drive – at least to get a feel of what you’ll be missing out on if you decide to get one of its rivals instead.

Although changes are everywhere, the most distinct ones are available up front. The hallmark “tiger-nose” grille detailing resides vertically in the front fascia, the hood is sharply detailed, and the headlights are positioned higher than before. The engine cooling has been enhanced by the enlarged lower front clip.
As previously mentioned, the wheelbase and the length dimensions have been stretched a bit over the existing models. And even despite the enlarged dimensions, the Sportage still remains instantly recognizable.
Exterior colors remain unchanged over the existing model.
