With a spacious rear seat for its class, a low base price, a sporty driving feel, and a generous list of standard features, the new 2017 Acura ILX could be seen as a sensible choice for a compact luxury sedan. However, its category provides shoppers with some worthy alternatives that offer lots of value for the money. Its release date should be expected sometime in the beginning of 2017.
Evert since it debuted in the automobile scene a couple of years ago, the ILX is yet to finally have its standout moment in its class. This isn’t to mean however that it lacks the looks, comfort and luxury amenities like the rest of its competition, it is mostly due to its lack of advanced safety features and a potent base engine that has robbed it its worthy place.
For 2017, however, the new model comes with some updates aimed at bringing it to parity with rest of the competition. The engine, for example, has been upgraded to a 2.4L four-cylinder and with it is a power generation of about 201 horsepower and 180 lbs. ft. of torque. It is also worth noting that the torque has been increased slightly relative to the outgoing model.
As for safety features, the ILX has for the first time in its brief stint at its category provided technologies such as blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, a rearview camera, frontal collision warning and mitigation, and lane-departure warning and mitigation.
And icing to the cake, it gets all this without any adjustment to its previous price. Exterior wise, t is now more handsome-looking, and comes with some mild headlights and taillight redesigns but you’ll probably find it difficult to differentiate it from the previous model unless you’re eagled eyed.
Its cabin offers easy ingress and once inside you’ll be amazed by the plethora of standard features and accessories available. Many foibles exist, nonetheless. We take issue particularly with the level of interior refinement. It is uninspiring for a luxury sedan and many of its rivals offer a much better refinement. The acceleration is mediocre while the tire, road, and wind noise is apparently pertinent.
Even for the tech-savvy generation, things haven’t improved, either. To cut the story short, there remains much to be desired. Some of the excellent alternatives you can check out include mainstream sedans like the 2017 Honda Accord, and 2017 Ford Fusion. Others include the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, and the 2017 Audi A3.
